About Dr. Gwendolyn Swan
Gwendolyn Swan was born and raised in Baltimore, where she first trained as a radiographer at the University of Maryland (UMUC), and then received her B.A. in Psychology from the University of Baltimore (UofB). Gwendolyn moved to Garland, Texas, where she completed an M.Ed. in Counseling at the University of North Texas (UNT). After relocating to Arizona, Gwendolyn completed an Ed.D. in educational psychology at Northern Arizona University (NAU). Gwendolyn lived in Flagstaff for 30 years where she worked as a therapist at the Guidance Center, and as clinical liaison to the DUI/Drug Court, and clinical supervisor at Northern Arizona Substance Abuse Services (NASAS).
Gwendolyn has had experience with individual, group, family and crisis counseling at inpatient, outpatient and residential settings, serving patients living with substance use disorders (SUDs), co-occurring disorders (CODs), and severe mental illness (SMI). Dr. Swan has been licensed as a behavioral health provider (BHP) by the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners (AZBBHE) for more than 20 years, and currently holds the new license as a Licensed Independent Addiction Counselor (LIAC). She is also trained in MAT and Harm Reduction, and she is certified as a Clinical Trauma Specialist (CCTP). Gwendolyn uses an eclectic approach which is trauma informed, and she utilizes the modalities of CBT, DBT, MI, IFS, RP, EMDR and EFT. Dr. Swan encourages patients to be well informed and empowered so they can be equal partners in their own health care experience.
